LONG-WEAR DRUGSTORE MATTE LIPGLOSS: WINTER REVIEW
Hi beauties! Well it’s 2018 and it’s time to kick it up a notch on the blog and that means more beauty blogs for you! If you’re like me, you love the make up aisle in your favorite drugstore. The only downside to drugstore makeup shopping is that sampling is not easy. Many if not all of the drugstore beauty products do not come with testers so, you’re left with picking out something that might not look right on you. I hope my insights on what I wear help you make a better decision. Recently, I went to my favorite beauty aisle at Walgreens and picked a few colors to make my winter looks warm and cozy. I chose to go with a few colors in a matte finish with designer looking colors in rich, velvety hues. I like wearing matte colors in the winter because it’s a dull finish that reminds me of a pair of velvet pants and cozy sweaters. My mini haul of matte lip glosses, all of them are “long-wear”. So I wanted to see which brand would last the longest…
I chose Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink Lip Color in HEROINE , its a tomato red great for brightening up a winter outfit , Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Lip in SHADOW, a smokey grey color that is something I am excited to try, I’ve never worn gray lip color and it’s a softer take on the black I normally wear. Next, I purchased Milani Amore Mattes Lip Crème in DEVOTION , a berry burgundy color in between brick red and coffee. Lastly, Wet N Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Lipstick in GOTH TOPIC a deep dark plumb that is rich and dangerous looking… I can’t wait!
SuperStay Matte Ink features a unique arrow applicator for precise application. Ink your lips in up to 16 hour saturated liquid matte that glides on effortlessly and creamy. Set it and forget it, it has the staying power of a lip stain perfect for a long day or night where a lip color is a must.
The tomato color is classic and a pop that will get you noticed during the dreary winter months. I like the idea of pairing this lip color with a power outfit… It can stand alone, but if paired with a colorful sequin dress for a night on the town it can be a great added bonus!
I love the velvety matte finish and the high intensity color of this smokey gray. This gloss has the staying power of up to 12 hours. You do have to add a couple of coats to get this result. It’s smudge proof and nearly waterproof. It dries immediately. The lightweight texture doesn’t make it heavy and chalky like most matte formulas. I’m not crazy about the smell, it’s not bad but it’s not my favorite.
This color is a nice alternative to the black gloss I like to wear. It is a great daytime dark color. Pair it with a comfy, chunky sweater it’s a great beauty accessory in this color, not many brands carry a gray color. Perfect for the winter if paired with the right outfit!
Milani Amore Matte Lip Crème slides on like a slippery lipgloss and dries to a soft, velvety finish for fuller-looking lips. Out of all of the glosses I have tried this is the silkiest when first applied. Its double-sided, flexible plush applicator hugs the contours of lips, working to lock in bold, opaque color. Non-sticky, smooth and ready for long-wear up to 16 hours! One swipe is all you need! It is smudge proof and kiss proof.
I love this color for a pop of color for an evening look. An all black tuxedo with posh accessories and this bold lip is sexy and sophisticated!
I love how this lipgloss glides on like butter, & feels like a second skin! It goes on glossy yet transforms into a high-pigmented matte finish with some serious staying power. Read my lips: This color is going nowhere! When I tried to remove it with just a tissue, it did not budge!! It is slightly tacky when first applied and I am okay with that it reminds me that something is on my lips. I love this color it is a winter must have!
Pair it with a casual look to dress it up a bit. If you go bare faced and wear this POP of warm goodness it is sure to make your outfit feel a little more put together
Here’s how I tested the longevity of the four lip glosses. I swatched each color and let them dry completely. Once dry, I did the smudge test and they all passed! As you can see Maybelline’s SuperStay Matte Ink is truly SUPER STAY. If you’re looking for a color that you can wear everyday as a signature color or your color of the moment, then this might be for you. It’s more like a lip stain. The other three glosses come off eventually, with plain soap and water. I had to use makeup remover for Heroine and it still stained my arm.
My favorite overall is Milani Amore Matte Lip Crème and a close second is the Wet N Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Lipstick. The Maybelline SuperStay does have the most interesting color offerings. All in all, I am happy with my mini hippie haul for the last weeks of winter!
